The NAGANO Convention & Visitors Bureau (NAGANO-CVB)
1. Purpose and Goals
  NAGANO-CVB is committed to planning, promoting and supporting conventions (including events, large-scale meetings and trade fairs) and promoting tourism by taking full advantage of Nagano City's industrial, natural, cultural and historical resources as well as the tangible and intangible heritage of the Nagano Olympic Winter Games. These activities continue to contribute to the revitalization of the city's industry and economy as well as to cultural enhancement and the promotion of international understanding.
2. History
 
July 1987: Establishment of an incorporated foundation approved by the Nagano Prefectural Governor.
April 1988: Nagano City officially recognized as an "International Convention City" by the Ministry of Transport (currently the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport).
October 1994: Nagano City officially recognized as an "International Convention and Tourist City" by the Ministry of Transport (currently the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport).
April 2003: Approval of the incorporated foundation Nagano Convention and Visitors Bureau approved by the Nagano Prefectural Governor.

8. Main Lines of Business
 
(1) Convention solicitation
 
· Approaching convention organizers and secretariats both in Japan and overseas to invite them to hold conventions and other events in Nagano City.
(2) Convention support activities
 
· Extend support to organizers and participants of conventions to be held in Nagano City. (Supply welcome signage, posters, brochures, bags, etc.)
· Grant subsidies to organizers of conventions to be held in the city for accommodation expenses in proportion to the number of participants who stay overnight or longer.
· Provide convention organizers with seed financing to prepare for the opening of their conventions and events.
(3) Gather and disseminate convention information and promote related advertising and PR activities
 
· Issue and distribute the NAGANO CVB bulletin "INFORM" and convention calendar.
· Conduct questionnaire surveys targeting convention organizers and participants.
· Conduct surveys on the number of conventions held in Nagano, and publish the results of preliminary calculations that show positive ripple effects and benefits to the local economy.
· Open a homepage on the Internet.
(4) Collaboration with related organizations
 
· Gather and exchange information with the Japan National Tourist Organization (JNTO) and the Japan Congress and Convention Bureau (JCCB).
· Conduct seminars for supporting members.
(5) Manage and operate convention facilities
 
· Manage and operate the Nagano City Wakasato Multi-Purpose Sports Arena and the Nagano City Wakasato Citizens' Culture Hall.
(6) Tourism promotion and related activities
 
· Develop tourism advertising campaigns and other tourist promotional activities and projects.
· Produce tourism promotional pamphlets and posters.
· Develop and create the image of a tourist destination brimming with hospitality.
(7) Film Commission activities
 
· Establish a film commission to support the shooting and production of movies, TV dramas and Commercials, with a view to taking advantage of such visuals for the promotion of tourism and the local culture.
(8) Tourism support activities
 
· Develop and coordinate tourism advertising activities by working closely with interested organizations and entities.
· Supply and distribute high-quality tourist information via tourist information centers and other outlets.
· Extend support to various festivals and other events of interest to potential visitors.
9. Priority Activities
 
(1) Initiate and implement invitations by calling upon convention organizers' secretariats, academic societies and universities in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area, the Kinki and Chukyo regions, as well as convention organizers within Nagano Prefecture.
(2) In support of conventions to be held in Nagano City, the Bureau will: (a) put up welcome signs in front of Nagano Station (Zenkoji Exit and East Exit); (b) supply guide maps indicating convention, accomodation and dining facilities. and other pamphlets as well as discount admission tickets for facilities and attractions within the city and bags, among others; (c) affix welcome stickers on taxi doors; (d) put up Welcome posters in shopping streets and tourist spots.
(3) Provide supporting members with opportunities for mutual information exchange by hosting seminars and interchange meetings.
(4) Grant subsidies to organizers of conventions held in the city for accommodation expenses in proportion to the number of participants who stay overnight or longer.
(5) Transmit up-to-date tourist and travel information by fully utilizing a wide range of advertising media, such as TV, radio, travel magazines, newspapers and the Internet.
(6) Carry out an ongoing and effective tourist promotion campaign by calling upon travel agents, tourism-related organizations, etc.
(7) Invite travel writers and specialists to Nagano and solicit their cooperation in raising Nagano's positive destination profile. Increase the number of visitors via maximizing the appeal of local tourism resources and attractions.
(8) Additional enhancement of tourist attractions in collaboration with the Matsushiro Tourism Promotional Strategy Campaign.
(9) To further spread and develop the concept of hospitality among local citizens, guaranteeing that Nagano becomes an even more gracious destination.
(10) Cooperate with tourist information centers, such as the Nagano City Tourist Information Center at JR Nagano Station in order to supply high-quality information, not only about Nagano City itself, but also the areas under the jurisdiction of the Kita-Shinano Regional Tourist Association and the Northern Japan Alps Tourist Association.
